Description

California car. Never welded. You will not find another one like it.

Giugiaro drew it. Alfa Romeo gave it a rear transaxle, near perfect weight distribution and the legendary twin cam, then named it after their Grand Prix winning 158. The Alfetta GT is one of the great driver’s cars of the seventies, but sadly it was also one of the great rust victims too. Most survivors have been cut, patched and welded back together, often badly. Fewer than 30 Alfettas from 1977 remain on UK roads.

Even in such scant company, this one is something altogether different. Supplied new to California and kept there for 41 years, it has genuinely never seen a welder. The factory spot welds are still on the inner arches and underside, exactly where Alfa Romeo put them in 1977. That is almost unheard of on any Alfetta, anywhere.

It is the right specification too. Rosso red over tan leather, the definitive Italian GT combination, with 21,000 miles on the clock supported by service history and documentation from the States. Since arriving in the UK it has been properly sorted mechanically by Richard Drake, respected classic Alfa mechanic. It has been converted to European carburettor specification, fitted with a lightened flywheel, gearbox fully rebuilt and no stone has been left unturned. Preserved, not restored, and ready to be enjoyed from day one by its lucky new owner.

Cars like this do not come up for sale. This one is about to – don’t miss it.
