Alfa Romeo 33
The Alfasud’s angular successor was the first Alfa Romeo model we really cut our teeth on, way back when they were still readily available for peanuts in each week’s Exchange & Mart. We owned a succession of different varieties in our youth (with some of these coming to a grislier end than others) and still have a sincere passion for the boxer-engined, boxy-styled retro charmers. Nothing can really compete with the sound of these engines - except the on-rails FWD handling that only the Alfasud comes close to, we guess!
1989 Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 8V Cloverleaf Veloce
Discovered laying abandoned in the lean-to garages of one of Norfolk’s less salubrious estates in 2015, most people told us this forgotten 33 wasn’t worth saving. Again and again and very loudly they told us, in fact. But it was a rare 1.7 8v Cloverleaf Veloce so, for us, it was never an option to simply scrap it and allow another 33 to disappear. The photos of its restoration process have, sadly, ended up in a HDD graveyard since, but we do have the video below over on our YouTube channel showing it’s transformation.
It even includes footage of the bark it produced from its period Max-Power cherry-bomb exhaust and, hearing this again, we can’t wait for our next 33 project.
