Alfa Romeo GTV
Say “Alfa Romeo GTV” to someone and, depending on their age and point of reference, they could be thinking of an incredibly varied breadth of different models. Ever since the original 1965 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce wowed on both the road and track, there has rarely been a time when Alfa haven’t had an offering carrying the legendary GTV name. We’ve experienced most versions in one form or another and eagerly await the hotly anticipated new 600-bhp hybrid version supposedly due in 2021…we’re not holding our breath though. Still, until this mythical beast is launched, we’ve got the timeless classics to keep us entertained.
Alfa Romeo GTV6 2.5 12V (116)
Sometimes we find a car that’s just too far gone for even us to resurrect, and this was sadly one of them. One summer’s morning back in 2011 we received a phone call that someone had an “ol’ alfer” in their garden somewhere in deepest, darkest Norfolk. What we were taken aback by, though, was just how integral this GTV6 was to the garden. With a huge bush literally growing right through the car, it was shot. In fact, as we put it up on the transporter it sagged at either and and snapped like a Kitkat. Sad to see such a bona-fide classic in such a sorry state, but we did manage to salvage some parts to help keep other 116’s on the road.
Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 V6 Cup (916)
Believe it or not, we have actually owned and sold 3 GTV Cups. Given that only 155 RHD examples were ever produced, this is no mean feat. For the whole lowdown on the 916-generation Serie Limitata take a look at our “Storm in a GTV Cup” article. We have also been lucky enough to work on a handful more, and know where several other Cups are currently residing. If there’s anything you want to know about the ultimate in 916 collectors’ items, ask us. I hope it doesn’t come across as boastful to say that we are probably the UK’s leading GTV Cup specialist.
Alfa Romeo GTV (916)
Perhaps the most iconic Alfa Romeo design of the past twenty years or so and an undeniable modern classic, the 916-GTV has passed through italicar’s doors in pretty much every guise. Phase 1, 2 and 3, Red Style, Twin Spark, JTS, 3.0 V6 and the Cup, we’ve ticked them all off. We are, of course, still looking to complete the set, so if you know of a Phase 3 3.2 V6 or a decent 2.0 V6 Turbo hiding somewhere in the UK, drop us a line.
