Fiat Coupé
If we were forced top suddenly work only on one Italian car for the rest of our days, we’d undoubtedly plump for our beloved Coupé. We can remember excitedly pulling back the cover on one of the very first 16V NA cars ever sold in the UK, as it sat hidden in the main Fiat dealership our father ran back in the 1990s. It was love at first sight, and there has rarely been a time since without a Coupé of one form or another taking up our time.
We have a Fiat Coupé Buyers’ Guide over on our blog and our YouTube channel has a decent amount of Coupés to oggle too.
Fiat Coupé 16V / 16v Turbo
Depending on who you ask in the italicar offices, you’ll get very different answers to the question “what is the best Coupé? 20v or 16v?”. Luke, who bought an LE almost new, will state the extra power and smoother delivery from the five-cylinder engine creates the best driving experience on offer behind that iconic dash-strip. Kirk however will argue until he is Sprint Blue in the face that the earlier Lampredi-engined action is where it’s at. You have to work the 16v engines, but with far less servo-assistance on the brakes and a more connected feel from the steering, it’s the frenzied hot-hatch to the 20v’s refined grand tourer.
Fiat Coupé 20V / 20V Turbo
It’s not possible to choose our favourite Coupé, there have been so many, but the Moon Grey 20VT6 (see below) was definitely a stunner, the 1998 Ink Black we saved from a rather unfortunate life at the side of the road and this low mileage 20V Turbo were highlights. We’re not just Turbo-obsessed either, as this 20V we sold in 2019 had been a regular visitor to our workshop for many years.
There are few other cars that can match a Coupé in each and every area that it excels in. Blistering performance, gorgeously unique lines and, unlike many other 1990’s sporting Coupes (yes, we’re looking at you GTV) the interior space actually accommodates humans in the back.
As one of our very favourite cars of all time, we’re always on the look-out for new additions to our Coupé collection. If you’re looking to buy your own Coupé, keep a close on our Current Stock or give us a shout and we’d be glad to help you in your search.
Fiat Coupé 20VT Limited Edition
Although nobody knows just how limited the Limited Edition actually is (all we do know is that Fiat built way more than the original 400 RHD cars they spoke about in their press bumph), it still stands at the top of the pile, along with the Plus, of collectable Coupés. We have owned and sold #30 and #94 (each LE has an individually numbered plaque inside), both in Rosso Corsa and practically unmodified. We are sure, though, that these won’t be the last we tick off the list because we simply adore the Coupé LE.
